Here is the sample narrative essay on women empowerment: Sample Narrative Essay: Psychological Effects of Gender Parity and Inequality on Women I remember when I was about 9 years old, I never really cared about what others thought about me and my gender – on the contrary, gender inequality was far from any thoughts. But when I started high school, I soon began to feel what it meant to be a woman. I have a brother who’s two years older than me though I was always consciously aware that he never knew how I feel about my life then and how I faced troublesome issues, growing up as a woman. I completed my Bachelors in Business Administration because I was interested to work in a financial firm, but these â€Å"firms† were not looking for females. In fact, their vacancies were only open to men. Because of this reason, I was unable to plan my future goals and wasted several years before I realized that I was under psychological stress. Getting rejected just because I was a woman, led me to believe that I am not worth living, which to make matters worse, led to depression, anxiety and insomnia. I didn’t want to involve my family in my personal affairs and all I can say when I look back is that my voice didn’t have the same weight as my brother’s did. Due to the reason that I couldn’t apply at a financial firm given my gender, I had to find a mid-level job and worked as a cashier in a local store for several years in order to financially support my studies, which enabled me to complete my Masters in Business Administration. These events, however, damaged my self-esteem and I felt a notable change in my mood, lifestyle and how I perceived myself. I didn’t care about how I looked or how others perceived me, as there was a fire in me to complete my education, but also fear that if I fail my exams, my dreams would permanently shatter into little pieces. Unfortunately, before I could finish my studies, my parents decided to marry me to someone whom they claimed had been â€Å"chosen very wisely†. At the time, I hadn’t given much thought to marriage as my focus was on completing my Master’s program, but since I was a woman, my voice had no weight and I had no say at all in the matter. At the age of 21, I was married off to a guy who was 8 years older than me. In the first few years, I was nothing but a â€Å"playtoy† for my husband but soon, he realized that I was in a lot of pain emotionally and needed a shoulder to lean on.   My husband soon started to understand me and tend to my needs; he encouraged me to complete my studies and loved me the way I truly wanted to be loved. Since that moment, I’ve realized that my parents did chose a great husband for me – a humble and loving individual who knew more about me than I knew myself. I now realize how many young women must have faced problems due to gender inequality. Thinking about those women and how they may not have caring and thoughtful husbands like mine, sends shivers down my spine and I feel sorry for them. I hope the world soon realizes how hard it is for women to live a life that they can only dream about. That’s wraps up our sample essay. Let’s head over to our last guide, how to write a narrative essay for women empowerment, where you familiarize yourself with tips, methods and tactics to improve your narrative writing and deliver an exemplary paper to your professor. Writing Contests Are Good Practice

Writing Contests Are Good Practice Writing Contests Are Good Practice Writing Contests Are Good Practice By Guest Author This is a guest post by Mary Hodges If you want to write for Daily Writing Tips check the guidelines here. There are some writers who wouldn’t dream of entering a writing competition. They consider such things beneath their dignity. I’ve even come across someone who refused to take part in competitions because â€Å"someone has to lose†. My response to this would be â€Å"someone has to win, and it might be you. But if you don’t enter, you certainly won’t win.† My own feeling is that writing for a competition is helpful for these reasons: You have to write to a word limit. You have a deadline to meet. You often have to write on a given topic. Even if your work is not among the winning entries you have a finished story article or poem that you can adapt for another market Writing competitions seem to be a growth area. A Google search for â€Å"writing competitions† came up with over a million hits! Prizemagic includes some interesting details about Michael Shenton and his book Stiff Competition based on his experience of entering competitions. The poetrykit site includes a link to story and other competitions and a warning to beware of scams. There are numerous print magazines with titles like Competitors’ Companion but these include only a few writing contests. They are mainly devoted to general consumer competitions where the entrants need to provide proof of purchase and concoct advertising slogans for particular products. Some points to remember when entering competitions: Always read the rules for entry carefully. State age, sex, ethnicity, place of birth or residence, and whether or not your work has been published. – I’ve seen all these used to restrict who is eligible to enter. Look carefully at the deadline. There’s no point in sending your work off too soon and making it unavailable for other uses any longer than necessary. Look for contests that give a clear date by which the winners will be notified. Once that date has passed, you know you can submit your work elsewhere or enter it in another competition, Note the prizes and the entry fees – if any. Remember, a bigger prize might attract more entries; you might have a better chance of winning in a smaller local comp. albeit with a smaller reward. Contests you can enter by email are to be preferred every time over those that require hard copy entries. Some ask you to send an S.A.E for an entry form, requiring wo lots of unnecessary postage. Look carefully at what the organizers say they will do with the non-winners. I’ve come across one contest where the entrants granted the organizers â€Å"a worldwide, irrevocable, perpetual license to feature any or all of the submissions in any of its publications†. Do you really want to give your work away when you might submit it to another publication or enter it for another contest? Keep a copy of your entry and a record of where you sent it. I should come clean and say I haven’t won lots of writing competitions. I seem to get to the runner-up stage quite often, but don’t make the big time. Of course prizes in writing competitions are not always in the form of cash. You might win a holiday, a place on a writing course in some exotic location or as I did many years ago you might win a lavatory seat! I’m not kidding. This was part of a prize for writing a poem about Convent Garden in London. Prizes were items from the various shops in Covent Garden including one that specialized in wooden loo seats with the owner’s initials on the lid! But when all’s said and done it’s not the winning that counts, it’s the taking part. Mary Hodges has published poems in The Oldie, Freelance Market News and Quantum Leap magazine. In this Paper You Will Discuss and Analyze an Aspect of Film Essay

In this Paper You Will Discuss and Analyze an Aspect of Film - Essay Example Hence, the aspects of culture that are portrayed in these films have been seen as a depiction of American culture. Many people who are not American Citizens but do watch this depictions always believe that what is portrayed is the American culture as it is. This paper seeks to shade more light by discussing aspects of American Film and Cultural theory. Through class readings and a number of films as a source of material, that text will discuss three major films that have made a worldwide audience. Hollywood is the biggest producer of films in the world. Most of Hollywood’s production finds a worldwide audience. The storyline of most of Hollywood’s production that touch the Middle East has elicited strong reactions both locally and internationally. Scholars, film theorists and cultural theorists have always repeatedly claimed that Hollywood has been used to misrepresent the Middle East while promoting the US wider agenda of expansionist. For the purposes of these discuss ions, this paper will reflect on three such films that have elicited strong reactions from the Middle East. These are, The Kingdom, Syriana and One Day in September. The first film that this paper will reflect upon is The Kingdom. The Kingdom is a film by Peter Berg produced in 2007. It features Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Garner, Chris Cooper and Jason Bateman. The story line of the film is the usual most common American agents searching for Terrorists in the Middle East. The film traces the storyline of Agent Ronald Fleury and an elite team of four operatives who hunt down a terrorist in Riyadh. The team’s main task is to destroy the terrorist cell, which has killed Americans working in Saudi Arabia. While in the Saudi Capital, the team finds itself in a culture shock as the Saudi culture is quite knew to them. The corrupt politicians and the law enforcement agencies that hinder their quest become an obstacle. However, one Saudi police officer helps the team in their quest for just ice and destruction of the terrorist cell. The second film that this paper will apply in the discussion is Syriana. Syriana is a film that was produced in 2006 by Stephen Gaghan. Syriana transcends a geopolitical theme with petroleum and oil industry politics at its center. The film centers around four major characters who are a central intelligence Agency operative, an energy analyst, a Washington attorney, and a young and unemployed Pakistani worker. The film employs multiple story lines top tell the experiences of the four people who feel the effect of politics in the oil Industry. The stories of the four men are the ones that form the basis of interpretation in this essay. The last Film that this essay explores is the movie One Day in September. This is a 1999 documentary shot and directed by Kevin McDonald. The film documentary reflects on the 1972 terrorist attack on the Munich Summer Olympics that left 11 Israeli Athletes dead. In this documentary, the veteran actor Michael D ouglas provides a light narration as the storyline unfolds. The historical events of Munich 1972 are brought into play as the film revolves ion the events that took place. The Palestinian terrorists and their agenda are well covered in the film. The documentary also shows that lax security by Germany security led to the death of the Israel Athletes. The widow of the Israeli coach taken hostage is interviewed while one of the remaining and surviving terrorists is also interviewed. Robin Bernstein in his article titled Dances With

Reflection Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Reflection - Assignment Example As such, the three aspects which will be focused upon within this brief analysis will be that of motivation, the relevance and importance of understanding and leveraging conflict to create positive movement, and perhaps most importantly the role in which a manager/leader must play in fostering and developing a more appreciable understanding of ethics and the means by which it applies to the workplace. Perhaps the most salient and important aspect of ethics that has changed was presented within the text is with regards to how the manager is ultimately responsible for ensuring the an ethical appreciation is fostered within the culture of the firm/entity in question. As such, ethics have become differentiated upon the terms of both personal and systemic. If one briefly considers the way that a large company handled business back before the turn of the century they would come to note that the company placed a high degree of emphasis on honesty of the employees and/or shareholders as a fu ndamental requirement that might be espoused. However, namely missing from such an ethical interpretation of company needs would be the reciprocal understanding that it was the sworn duty of the form to exhibit such a level of ethical responsibility with regards to both the employees as well as the end consumer. In this way, ethical considerations of the previous era were more focused on profitability and how the company may wish to safeguard its assets, inclusive of employees, while completely disregarding the ethical responsibilities that management/leadership espoused with relation to the rest of the system. This should of course not be understood to mean that all firms during this time were disrespectful to the ethical considerations that they must necessarily espouse to the customer or to the shareholder/employee. Rather, the level of emphasis, as it exists today was not to such a highly evolved, regulated, and legislated mandate that it has subsequently reached within the past several decades. Applying this understanding of managerial ethics to a particular case study, this level of ethical understanding as a function of profitability is perhaps the single most important reality that must be considered with regards to the global economic collapse 2007/2008. Rather than the shareholders and managers of the situation paying particular attention to the ethical ramifications of their actions, profitability was ultimately championed as the greater good in each and every situation. Due to the fact that management was fully aware of the situation that was taking place and did absolutely nothing to bring these concerns to light, these individuals are ethically and morally culpable to a very high degree. Although it is not the determination of this particular analysis to shed blame with regards to global financial collapse of 2007/2008, it must be understood that an ethical interpretation of the event demands that all parties be analyzed in an unbiased manner. Wi thin such an understanding, the manager must engage in a level of ethical oversight at each and every turn as a means of ensuring that the individuals and

Definition and description of home Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Definition and description of home - Essay Example When I was a child, my parents made me believe that home was in our family house. However, as I grew up, my understanding, definition, and description of a home changed with time. I realized I would visit some places and get the feeling of being at home while others made me feel homesick. I was born in California, in a family house that still evokes a feeling of security, love, and comfort. My child’s bedroom might have looked ordinary for many people, but that was the most exciting place to be in, it was my home. I would look around it while leaving for school and wonder when I would be back. My bedroom was full of secrets ranging from pencil writings at one corner of the room to my ever hidden diary. The light blue painting made my room so lovely. I recall the days I would come home feeling tired, but the moment I got into my room, all the tiredness would go away to be replaced by a feeling of relaxation. I remember peeping through the window and calling out my best friend’s name since they lived next door. I still recall the beautiful yard around our house where I spent my weekends playing with my dog. I remember the tall trees with branches brushing against my bedroom window whenever it was windy. The kitchen was another place I often remember of whenever I think of my childhood home. It was the place where my mother cooked the best meals. The living room was where we would gather as a family to talk and share the day’s happenings or watch a movie together. I always hoped I would live there forever, since I considered this the definition of an ideal home. At some point I had to leave home, which was one of the most agonizing moments of my life. I thought I would never find another place to call home. This was true for some time, but I began feeling homesick and wished I would go back home. I tried to make the houses I lived in to feel homely, but they always remained to be houses lacking the security and comfort I had

Wars with American Involvement

Wars with American Involvement Brian Jerozal   The United States has become a symbol of freedom around the world and continues to strive to help maintain peace. Now is this something that the United States needs to do the quick answer is no but most of their effort is to prevent certain actions taking place beforehand. There have been a lot of altercations that without the United States helping things may have gone differently. For this argument, the United States should help out when it needs to but other countries can not only depend on the United States for help. The United States should be a policing power in the world because of such battles like the Spanish-American War, World War I, World War II, Gulf War, Bosnian War, and the war in Afghanistan. The Spanish-American War occurred in 1898 when Cuba was struggling for their independence from Spain. This was a concern for the United States since they had many invested business in Cuba as well as citizens there. Before the United States would commit to anything they would send a battleship the USS Maine to the Havana harbor. On February 15th 1898 the USS Maine and would push the United States into war with Spain. Though they wanted to remain neutral with the conflict they were drawn in with the attack on the USS Maine. The resulting conflict lead to the Treaty of Paris which was signed on December 10th 1898 which Spain would renounce its claim over Cuba, ceded Guam and Puerto Rico to the United States and transfer the sovereignty over the Philippines (Trask, 2011). In 1917 the United States would enter World War I when they were trying to remain neutral again to stay out of the conflict. This was changed however when Germany would use its submarines to attack neutral ships. The Germans violated its pledge to suspend restricted submarine warfare in the North Atlantic and the Mediterranean (Randolph, 2011). Germany would attack and kill passenger ships claiming they were carrying supplies to Allied nations. Because of this broken pledge and also that Germany was trying to get Mexico to join them in their cause prompted the United States to enter the war. The war would end with Germany surrendering in 1918 which would lead to the Treaty of Versailles. World War II started in 1939, while the United States would remain out of the war until 1941. The United states would remain neutral and only support the war with its resources to the Allies until the attack of Peral Harbor on December 7, 1941. The United States would have to face fascist aggression and the militaristic ideology of the Axis powers. The United States would provide the strong industry and manpower that would help turn the course of the war. With the end of World War II in 1945 it would lead to the creation of the United Nations which is supposed to maintain the peace and security of the world. The Gulf War began on August 2nd, 1990 and was in response to the invasion of Kuwait from Iraq. This war was made of mainly the United States and coalition forces that saw this incident as an unjust and uncalled for. When the invasion first started, fellow Arab powers called upon the United States to intervene (History.com, 2009). The coalition would raise 700,000 troops but 540,000 were United States military members and would lead the forces that would start the great air campaign and later push in with ground forces (Britannica, 2016). The war would end on February 28, 1991 and would lead to the Iraqi forces retreating Kuwait and also lead to the UN to pass Resolutions that would create a cease-fire and create a special commission to inspect Iraqs chemical and biological weapons if they had any. The Bosnia War which took place in 1992 and was the second most act of genocide since World War II with the Nazi regime. This war would kill up to 200,000 Muslim civialins and over two million would become refugees during the conflict. The United States would remain out of the conflict and help produce cease fire treaties which were later broke by the Bosnian Serbs. This would have led to the United States to take firm action and lead a massive bombing campaign against the Bosnia forces key military positions. Following this the United States would force the Serb leaders to talk peace and sign agreement that would end the conflict as well as have the leaders face war crimes (The History, 1999). The War in Afghanistan was driven by an attack on the United States by the Taliban that would bring a very long drawn out war. After the attack on the World Trade Center in New York City the United States would demand for the leader of the Taliban Osama Bin Laden be turned over for war crimes. It would not be until 2011 that the leader would be found and killed by American forces in Pakistan. After this the United States, would help by leaving behind a peacekeeping military force to help rebuild the country. This would be a slow withdrawal of troops after 2014 until 2016. This was a long drawn out style war which from experience I spent most of my career in being deployed to this country where we help try to bring a stable government. In conclusion, there have been many wars in United States history and some could have been avoided. This is not the view though of America when they feel something is unjust and unfair they will step up and stand for what they think is right. There may be views that the United States should leave other countries alone and worry about their own country. That the United States is a kind of bully that if you dont believe in their point of view then they will attack you. This is not the case the United States takes on the role of policing of the world not that it craves power or wants to show off its might. The United States is a super power and it needs to act like one by helping out those that need it or ask for help and will fight for the rights of all around the world. References History.com Staff. Is Taxation is Theft? Essay -- essays research papers

Taxation, the government acquisition of property from the individual has mixed support in any Western democratic system. To make its way into the good will of the majority, taxation has surrounded itself with doctrines of justification. No law which lacks public approval or acquiescence is enforceable, and to gain such support it must address itself to our sense of correctness. This is particularly necessary for statutes authorizing the taking of private property. Sometimes depicted as ‘theft’ by those who are subject to taxation, the accusation is commonly based on the sentiment what do I get from it? However, one chooses to live in a democratic welfare state and to take up the services society has to offer the individual; the argument of free-will is combated here by the necessities of the individual. Often misunderstood by the tax-paying individual, taxation is not solely a legal obligation, but a social obligation as well; one has a duty to protect the weaker member s of society in any welfare state. Taxation is justified through constitutional law and social convention, and so any rejection of taxation’s legitimacy is a direct condemnation of the legitimacy of the law, the legitimacy of the State, and the appropriateness of this social convention. Any claim that denies the legitimacy of such responsibilities and powers is a claim in favour of anarchy. Thus, the claim taxation is theft has the inferential meaning that government is illegitimate. Theft is conceptually reliant on social convention and legal definition, and so without government or social obligation, the concept of theft is void. Governmental power is entrusted in the State by the people it represents, and government policy in any democratic state is intended to represent public interests . As taxation is within government policy, and such policies represent the will of the people, taxation is therefore, the will of the people. Theft, lexically defined as taking property without permission or legal right , is an incorrect classification for taxation, as taxation is legitimized through constitutional law. Taxes are part of a social contract, an agreement between voters and government to exchange money for the government's goods and services. Even libertarians agree that breach of contract legitimates a police response. So the real question is not whether a crime should be met with forcible i... ... tide over the rough times, and this establishes a smooth-running economy that benefits us all. One has a moral and social obligation to ensure the weakest members in society are protected, and taxation is one way of regulating this social contract. Taxes are part of an agreement that voters make with government, a contract in which citizens agree to exchange their money for the government's goods and services. To consume these goods and services without paying for them is itself theft, and is rightly punished as breach of contract. Some may object that they have not agreed to the contract, but if so, then they must not consume the government's goods and services. Furthermore, contract by majority rule is better than by minority rule, one-person rule or anarchy (which results in kill-or-be-killed). Opponents of taxation under democracy are therefore challenged to find an improvement on democracy. REFERENCES Heywood, A.
